If I made a brochure with Adobe...

Can it open it perfectly?
If I made a brochure with Adobe...
Did you use any CS3 features? Inevitably, your brochure uses CS3's text composition algorithms so going back to CS2 will involve a reflow of the text -- this might not make a significant difference, but it could.

So: ''perfectly'' No.

And, actually, no also. You can't open a CS3 document with CS2. You must instead export it to InDesign Interchange format and then open the .inx file.

What? I can't even open it? How exactly do I do this exporting thing?

File%26gt;export%26gt;InDesign Interchange

Be prerpared for some unpleasant surprises depending upon the features

you using in CS3.

Bob

I really find it hard to imagine that you need advice on how to choose the Export menu item from the File menu and then choose InDesign Interchange for the format.

Dave

I'm not a professional at all and I used it to make a goodlooking brochure...I asked people on the web so I can produce the effects that I wanted...zero knowledge of how to use it

I have a very closely related topic, if I may.

I cannot open a document created with Indesign CS2 with Indesign 2.0 software. My software was originally 1.5, then upgraded to 2.0 with the updates added. It is now 2.02, but still it will not open a document created in Indesign CS2. When attempting to open it says that I need to update o the latest plugins OR update to the latest Indesign software.

Does anyone have any idea why?

CS2 is InDesign 4, not Indesign 2. There is nothing at all you can do to allow you to open version 3 (CS) or later docs in version 2.

Peter

InDesign 2 is now 7 years old and has seen four major upgrades. You're

not even eligible for upgrade pricing.

There is no way to open InDesign files created in versions 3 through 6

in version 2. You'll have to buy CS4.

Bob

I'm on a tight to non-existent budget working for a nonprofit and I purchased InDesign 1.0 for Windows. I am trying to open their InDesign Exhchange (.inx) files exported from InDesign CS2. I read Adobe offered a free upgrade from 1.0 to 1.5 but can't find anywhere to download it. Any ideas?

Also, even if I found/purchased the 1.5 upgrade will it open the files? What's the oldest version that I can use which will open .inx files? Thanks

InDesign CS2 is the oldest release that can read .inx files, and then only those created by CS2 or CS3.

Dave

%26gt; What's the oldest version that I can use which will open .inx files? Thanks

Depends on what version created them. CS3 can open CS4, CS2 can open CS3

and CS can open CS2.

Prior to that...you're out of luck.

Bob

Maybe my memory has failed me. I thought that one of the frustrations with CS was that it couldn't open CS2 .inx files. It was supposed to be able to but couldn't -- or is that memory from one release earlier?

I don't have CS on any of my machines any more, so I can't check.

Dave

InDesign CS, if fully patched, can indeed open CS2 inx files. I believe the build number was 384.

Unless of course you're talking about the ME version. inx and CS ME did

not go together very well at all...

Adobe does offer discounts to Non-profits, as they do to educational institutions. http://www.adobe.com/nonprofit/

Ah yes, it belatedly comes back to me. It was 2.0 that at one point was advertised as being able to do it but then the capability didn't make it into CS.

Thanks,

There is persistent confusion over the Creative Suite version numbers.

Indesign CS2 (version 4.0) is three versions newer than Indesign 1.0

(which was not part of any Creative Suite). You're not going to be able

to do anything with Indesign 1.0 (or 1.5) except open Indesign 1.0 (or

1.5) files.

Indesign 1.0 came out in 1999, and the Indesign 1.5 upgrade came out in

2001. Indesign CS2 came out in 2005. Your files are less than three

years old, but you want to be able to open them with 10-year-old software.

The only way you're going to be able to open ID CS2 files is if you get

your hands on ID CS2 (version 4), CS3 (version 5), or CS4 (version 6).

Or export to INX and open with CS.

Check out E-bay, but be very, very careful that what you buy/bid on is a full install and not just an upgrade, and that the seller will transfer the license to you (look up how to do this at Adobe's site). That's how I got CS2 after CS3 was out.
