Text Wrapping

I am working within a text frame. I am trying to manually wrap text; in this particular case, I can't wrap the text around the object. How do I wrap the text so text above the current line (in the same paragraph) doesn't move automatically?

I'm working with a background image and there's only one part that needs to have text wrapping.

Surely, it is easier to adjust the shape of the wrap than to manually wrap the text. What are you going to do if there's an edit earlier in the story that pushes the lines you've slaved over up or down the page?
