I want to create an index that includes some number style override to emphasize the most important index entry for topics with multiple entries. i tried creating the character style in both the document and the book, clicked the checkbox to use the character style for the index entry. but when i generate the index, the character style is not used. is this a bug or am i missing something?
index number style override
What version of InDesign are you using? If you are using CS3 make sure
you are updated to 5.04. I know there were some index bugs in 5.0 that
were fixed.
index number style override
I'm using cs4. i tried both single page reference and range of pages.
How are you telling ID to use the style? It sounds to me as if you want it applied to only one number per entry, and I'm having trouble understanding how that would be automated.

In the new page reference dialog box, when i am creating the reference for the most important entry for the topic (assuming this is a topic with multiple references on other pages), i click the checkbox Number Style Override and choose the style Important which i have defined in both the current document and the index document of the book. i want the style applied to whatever the reference is, not just one number of a range of pages. if it is a page range such as 26-27, i want 26-27 in bold. if it is a single page reference, i want the single page number in bold. it doesn't seem to work in either case.
