Auto Backup in Indesign like quark?

Is there a way to Auto Backup the files you are working on incase they are accidentally saved over or you just want to revert back to a state before you manually saved your document and closed it? This was my most valued Quark feature as compared to Indesign as it can come in handy in disastrous situations...

From what I've found on the net, there is freeware plugin (script) for the MAC but I haven't found anything for Windows. Has anyone found a solution?

There's Version Cue, which isn't really the same, but allows you to keep multiple version of a document and revert to any of them.

If you haven't yet closed the document, ID will allow you to undo right back to the point it was opened (even back through a regular save) or the last ''save as,'' whichever is more recent.

There is also a ''Save a copy'' command, and I'm sure it could be scripted to do that automatically every time you open a file, but one has to wonder why you are constantly saving over files you don't want to change?

I should add that ID is constantly saving recovery information in case of disaster. If the program crashes, a restart will almost always bring back your document at a state moments before the crash (unless the document is actually damaged, which though rare, does happen).

That feature *is* valuable in Quark, which (up to version 5, anyway)

used to corrupt files during save with alarming regularity. Any program

that trips over itself during a save needs to save backups. I've been

working in Indesign for about six years now and I've never needed to

revert to an earlier backup because of a corrupted file.

I don't know how Quark works, but I fond it very annoying that after a

crash you can't undo.

Especially on long documents, i frequently do save as and assign a new name, such as doc-a, doc-b, doc-c. then i rotate among the names sequentially. save-as is supposed to be a good way to make files more efficient etc so that's a bonus.

this is my ''auto backup'' method ;)

1) hit CTRL+S in InDesign

2) switch to Explorer window with InDesign file I'm working on and selecting this INDD file

3) hit CTRL+C and CTRL+V

Explorer will make copy with next number ;) I do this every half hour or often - depends on number and importance of changes ;) at end of the day - I delete most of copies - leaving last two or three
