Operating system Windows XP Professional Service pack 3
CS version 3.0
Problem reinstalling InDesign.
All five products will reinstall on to my system with no problems, except InDesign. After attempting to reinstall several times, and each time the following massage appears.
Adobe InDesign is not supported on this version of windows. Please
refer to your documentation for a list of supported versions.
Setup will now quit.
Following my upgrading to CS, all products have performed without any problems, I have this week upgraded Photoshop to CS4, and it works OK.
Anybody out there with an explanation?

Reinstalling IDesign

Not a good one, but my guess is that the installer is either looking at the version number of Windows and didn't allow for SP3, which wasn't even a twinkle in Bill Gates' eye when CS was released, or less likely, there's some bit up updated code in SP3 that is incompatible.
As a work-around you could roll back to SP2, do the install, and then go back to SP3. A pain, I know, but a possibility.
Someone else may wander by who knows what to change in the installer (you'd probably have to copy the disk to the hard drive and install from there) files to get by the error. I remember similar hacks being posted previously.
