Indesign Importing XML

I want to import XML data into my design and then repeat this a few times on a page. To expand on this I have a background which is a box with a background colour and then there are several text fields which the XML data goes into.

When importing this data I want indesign to use this layout/design and repeat it down the page, then onto a new page if needed and so on. Can this be done? If so how?

From the Adobe help pages it shows how to do it with whole pages, but I want to do it for a section on a page and repeat that section.

Hope that makes sense. Thanks!

If you want to use InDesign and XML, you will save a lot of time by buying Jim Maivald's excellent book:

A Designer's Guide to Adobe InDesign and XML: Harness the Power of XML to Automate your Print and Web Workflows

$37.40 at amazon.com. Although, in theory, the process is straightforward, in practice it is not. Jim's detailed walkthroughs of adding, naming, tagging, and matching elements with styles is critical to understanding how the flow works.

Tad

Thanks for that, think I will get it...

You could always buy Cacidi's plug in, works like a charm but NOT cheap...

It allows you to use different item designs (not just one) and page designs.

Regards, Roel.

I have looked at a few plugins but they are expensive, I seem to be able to do what I want with XML through InDesign, just need to get it setup the best way possible, although some plugins do make some things like the design elements easier to do...
