%26lt;gasp%26gt; There's something seriously wrong with your keyboard if the %26lt;br /%26gt;Shift keys and the punctuation keys aren't working either... ;)%26lt;br /%26gt;%26lt;br /%26gt;Do you have two Enter keys? Does the same happen if you use the %26lt;br /%26gt;other one? Is NumLock on?%26lt;br /%26gt;This problem is usually caused by the keyboard shortcut for Insert %26lt;br /%26gt;Break Character: Column Break, which uses the numerical keypad Enter %26lt;br /%26gt;key by default. Shift-Enter with the same key gives a Frame Break %26lt;br /%26gt;and Ctrl-Enter a Page Break. So, disable those three shortcuts [Edit %26lt;br /%26gt; %26gt; Keyboard Shortcuts %26gt; Type menu] and see if the problem persists. %26lt;br /%26gt;You may have to restart Indesign if NumLock was on when you started %26lt;br /%26gt;it last, and make sure it stays off.%26lt;br /%26gt;--%26lt;br /%26gt;NoelIndesign CS4 and new toshiba laptop
Mark, take a breath, use some punctuation.

A full-size keyboard has two Enter keys, one that makes an ordinary

return, another (on the number keypad) that breaks text to a new frame.

They're both Enter keys, but in Indesign (and other programs) they do

different things. Because laptops don't have a numpad, the numpad is

usually part of the keyboard with some sort of ''supershift'' key to

invoke numpad treatment. My (somewhat old at this point) Toshiba laptop

has an ''Fn'' key that transforms a block of keys (starting with 789 at

the top of the keyboard) into a sort of a numpad.

Does your keyboard have an Fn key? Or some other key with no other

discernible purpose? What happens if you press it and hit Enter?

BTW, this *is* a Toshiba problem. You'll get the same results in Quark,

which uses the Numpad Enter key the same way.
