CS2 .indd to CS3 .inx to CS2 .indd

We are have CS2 .indd files (created on a PC) and we send these to an editor

using CS3 on a Mac. We have seen that some problems with using CS3 InDesign

.inx files we receive back. The figure captions have lost their ability to

have their text wrap properties adjusted (We can change the numerical

amounts of offsets, but they are not applied when we hit enter). In

addition, any text box separate from the main linked body text also cannot

have Text Wrap adjusted. I'm not sure if the problems are due to a conflict

between InDesign 3 and 2 or if it's due to the fact that we're on a PC and

the editor is on a Mac.

When we open the.inx files we have also discovered that the Graphics Frames

are not visible for any of the illustrations. The property of ''black''

outline box has been changed to ''No Outline'' and the ability of adjusting

Text Wrap offsets has somehow been disabled.

It puzzles me as to why the Text Wrap is being ''locked'' so it cannot be

changed (I do not find anything on the Master page). Are there hidden

preferences that: 1) Locks the Text Wrap properties and 2) Assigns graphics

frames a No Outline stroke with no width to the stroke (a red slash through

both the outline box and the fill box)? Our original files do not have these

problems. I have tried looking for Ignore Text Wrap preferences, but I don't

find any. I guess I must not know where to look?

The plot thickens...When I create a new graphics frame on this CS3 .inx to

CS2 .indd page, I cannot create any text wrap (such as having text flow

around the graphics frame or adding/changing offsets). I guess this is real

simple for the pros out there, but I don't know where to look.

What you're trying to do is not at all recommended. INX is for one off

backsaving not roundtripping.

That said, I'm going to guess that part of your problem is not having

CS2 fully patched to 4.0.5.

I'm sorry to be so dense. Do you mean a small simple (free) downloaded patch

or a full downloaded upgrade to fully functioning InDesign CS4 that can be

purchased online?

He seems to have meant a simple FREE update to the current version of CS2.
